Lessons 1-4 focus on greetings, introductions and vocabulary, expressions and structures related to children's senses of sight and hearing. The vocabulary includes talking about the parts of their bodies responsible for seeing and hearing and things or objects related to these two important senses. Children are immersed in the English language and acquire a basic vocabulary along with expressions and structures that they can use from day 1 in their everyday lives.
Lessons 5-8 are designed to help young children discover their senses of touch and taste. Additionally, this part of the unit helps children discover some of their likes and dislikes. Lessons 9-10 help children discover their sense of smell.
Lesson 11 has a review of the five senses and explains in a very simple way that not everyone has all of the senses; that there are some people who might not be able to see or hear or even smell or taste. This lesson puts a lot of emphasis on respecting and caring for one another. Lesson 12 is the last lesson on the Give me 5! unit. It is a "celebration" for children's accomplishments. Each lesson in this Teacher's Guide includes at the beginning valuable information regarding the materials necessary to conduct the classes and vocabulary and structures that need to be introduced and/or practiced.
