Steck Vaughn Writing Skills helps 6th grade students learn writing skills. The content is designed to build students' confidence as writers, refresh their writing skills, and prepare them for standardized writing tests. This standards based series helps students learn how to write effectively through a wide variety of strategies. This book is divided into nine units. Each unit deals with a different type of writing. Each unit has seven parts. First, students read a Model Paper. Then, they Respond to the Model Paper. Next, they analyze the Model Paper. After they have studied the Model Paper, they begin the process of writing their own paper. They receive a Writing Assignment, which includes a graphic organizer. A page is provided for the student to begin their first draft. Then, they evaluate their own work or that of a classmate using a Writing Report Card. Bound-in answer key.
Students read model papers, respond to what they read, and analyze the writing techniques used. Students plan, organize, and assess their own writing. Includes a chart of proofreading symbols, writing conference record, and writing process steps. Adapted from state writing standards.
